Susan Singer
Susan has been putting her green footprint on the state of NY for over 20 years! In 1990 Susan opened “The Grange” in Kingston, NY selling green and sustainable products for the home and garden including furniture, crafts and outdoor sculptures. Working with a local craftsman Susan encouraged him to build the fixtures from recycled barn wood and helped to design the ‘Body Bar’ where customers could select fragrances and create personalized body lotions.
She eventually returned to NYC and brought her brand of innovative marketing to residential real estate and now it’s come full circle. Susan became New York’s First Certified Eco-Broker in 2006. “I can’t imagine a better way for me to spread the word and affect the choices people make about how and where they can live a greener lifestyle” says Singer. Her classes prepared her to define, locate and mitigate environmental hazards as well as training in ways to build, retrofit and develop sustainable living spaces. You can learn more about her real estate business at Susan Singer Spaces.
Susan practices where she perches. Over the last 3 years, she has devoted herself to bringing green initiatives to her own home, London Terrace Towers, in hopes of creating a “healthier” building through energy conservation and efficiency. This effort began with Susan’s gift of over 750 CFL bulbs to the London Terrace Towers tenants and now includes a management driven program.
You can find Susan on programs such as NY1, Open House NY and various seminars where she speaks about green buildings in the city, LEED building certification and other green matters in language that even the novice ‘greenie’ can understand.
And finally when not painting the town green Susan writes and creates a comic strip ‘Tales of the Green Queen’ by applying newsworthy information to an on-going story. Working in tandem with Delfin Barral, a graphic designer, the comic strip features The Green Queen and her jester Chester educating the public about green and sustainable living set in a humorous and often edgy drama.
